Coproduction Office is an international label that produces and sells bold and award-winning films. Its sister company Briefmarken Weine is one of Berlin’s best wine bars, focusing on artisanal and natural wines paired with authentic Italian bistro cuisine, also importing Italian “vin d’auteur” to Germany. Film producer Philippe Bober is the founder of both companies and has produced forty films to date with twelve of these having been selected to screen in Competition in Cannes, winning two Golden Palms: TRIANGLE OF SADNESS (2022) and THE SQUARE (2017) both by Ruben Östlund.

We are now connecting our know-how in both fields in a unique project: a premium cultural space combining a three-screen arthouse cinema, an exhibition venue, ambitious restaurants, and a wine bar. Located in Berlin’s city center in an iconic listed building. It is set to open its doors to the public in 2025-2026.

We are looking for a Finance Manager (job creation) to join our Berlin team and to support the growth of Coproduction Office’s activities in Germany. The working languages are German and English, in which full working proficiency is required, further languages are beneficial.

RESPONSABILITIES:

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND FUNDRAISING:

  • Ensure the company is properly funded: manage the fundraising processes with the CEO, investigate new sources of financing.
  • Advise on investment activities and provide strategies that the company should take.
  • Update the business plan for the development of the company activities in Germany.

FINANCE MANAGEMENT:

  • Manage the Berlin-based companies’ (gastronomy, cultural space project, film production company) treasury planning; be in direct contacts with the providers, negotiate payment schedule.
  • Communicate with our German bank, request short-term and long-term credits.
  • Lead the financial reporting and analyze the financial performance of the company.
  • Manage two accountants in Berlin.
  • Closely collaborate with our external accountancy firm in Germany (and France when required) and oversee the closing of the balance sheets.
  • Closely collaborate with our finance team in Paris, and particularly, with our colleague in charge of the treasury planning for the production and sales activities of the companies.
  • Help optimize/automate finance activities, operations, systems, and processes.
  • Accurately prepare and fill state and state/government tax documents.

HUMAN RESSOURCES:

  • Recruit new colleagues.
  • Oversee the onboarding process, including contracts drafting with our external advisor.
  • Assist with the Management of the Berlin based team (Wine Bar staff, Cultural space project team).

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • You are fluent in English and German. French and Italian language are a plus.
  • You have a master’s degree in finance/business or further education in finance/accounting with a least 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • You are professional in every circumstance.

JOB OUTLINE

You will assist our sales executives and festival manager with the following tasks:

Festivals:

  • Conduct research on festivals.

  • Submit our films to festivals.

  • Be involved in the elaboration of the festivals’ strategy for new films and restored titles.

  • Negotiate screenings fees.

  • Provide Materials to festivals.

  • Help with talent coordination (promotional tours, press).

  • Assist with event organization at festivals (premieres, cocktails, dinners, and parties).

  • Be involved in the restoration process of our films.

Sales:

  • Assist our sales executives during markets (scheduling meetings; writing memos; etc.).

  • Follow up with international distributors.

JOB OUTLINE

You will assist our in-house producers and our founder Philippe Bober with tasks related to production, financing, planning, reporting and cost accounting that may include:

  • Researching funds, investors, and credit lines as well as specific research related to individual film projects.

  • Assisting with the applications to German and European film funds and following their administration from application to final accounts.

  • Participating in the budgeting, reporting and accounting for the projects and being a point of contact for the accounting team. Preparing cost reports for producers and financing partners.

  • Assisting with the legal aspects of international co-productions and legal deliveries

  • Assisting the in-house producers in preparing and following up on shootings and post-production

  • Interacting with all the departments of Coproduction Office and facilitating administrative processes within the company

  • Scheduling, preparing and following up on meetings with our (international) partners: logistics, recordings, transcripts, to do lists, coordinating and implementing follow ups.

YOU ARE:

  • A native German speaker, who feels comfortable writing texts and has an excellent command of English (written and spoken). A knowledge of French and/or Italian is a plus.

JOB OUTLINE:

You will work in Coproduction Office’s finance and sales department in interaction with other departments (production, festivals, marketing, deliverables) and will assist our head of departments on some following in the tasks (depending on the period of the year):

Finance

  • Establishing the films’ sales and marketing budget: at the occasion of the premier of the films in festivals and in the context of funding applications (Creative Europe, CNC, European Film promotion).
  • Managing Royalties reports (contacting distributors after the release of the films and analyzing the provided reports).
  • Evaluating the performance of the distributors on our films across territories.
  • Analyzing the evolution of films revenues across various platforms and territories (with a specific focus on the evolution of digital revenues) and presenting the results to the sales team.

Managing MEDIA Creative Europe funding, both internally and in collaboration with our European distributors (grant cash-flow, communication with the distributors, cost report analysis etc.).

Requesting funding to banks and credit institutions active in the film sector.

Processing incoming and outgoing invoices/Call for funds and their payments and allocation to corresponding projects, with a focus on monitoring bank transactions in the context of international film co-production (transfers of funds etc.).

  • Updating performance and operation monitoring tables and improving their accuracy and efficiency.
  • Preparing costs reports for producers, banks, and publics funds according to different reporting requirements.
  • Being the point of contact across departments and with external accountants
  • Working on market research.

Legal and Administration

Drafting and negotiating film sales contracts with international distributors.

Resolving legal conflicts related to film rights, and secondary rights.

Carrying administrative tasks, such as the notarization process for Chinese contracts, registration of contracts, verifications of Chain of Rights, clearance of double taxation and more.

Collaborating with the production and sales teams to prepare and gather legal documentation required for film legal deliveries.

YOU ARE:

Fluent in English, French and/or German speaker (applicants are required to speak at least two of the languages, a third one is a plus).
