Coproduction Office is an international label that produces and sells bold and award-winning films. Its sister company Briefmarken Weine is one of Berlin’s best wine bars, focusing on artisanal and natural wines paired with authentic Italian bistro cuisine, also importing Italian “vin d’auteur” to Germany. Film producer Philippe Bober is the founder of both companies and has produced forty films to date with twelve of these having been selected to screen in Competition in Cannes, winning two Golden Palms: TRIANGLE OF SADNESS (2022) and THE SQUARE (2017) both by Ruben Östlund.

We are now connecting our know-how in both fields in a unique project: a premium cultural space combining a three-screen arthouse cinema, an exhibition venue, ambitious restaurants, and a wine bar. Located in Berlin’s city center in an iconic listed building. It is set to open its doors to the public in 2025-2026.

We are looking for a Finance Manager (job creation) to join our Berlin team and to support the growth of Coproduction Office’s activities in Germany. The working languages are German and English, in which full working proficiency is required, further languages are beneficial.

RESPONSABILITIES:

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND FUNDRAISING:

  • Ensure the company is properly funded: manage the fundraising processes with the CEO, investigate new sources of financing.
  • Advise on investment activities and provide strategies that the company should take.
  • Update the business plan for the development of the company activities in Germany.

FINANCE MANAGEMENT:

  • Manage the Berlin-based companies’ (gastronomy, cultural space project, film production company) treasury planning; be in direct contacts with the providers, negotiate payment schedule.
  • Communicate with our German bank, request short-term and long-term credits.
  • Lead the financial reporting and analyze the financial performance of the company.
  • Manage two accountants in Berlin.
  • Closely collaborate with our external accountancy firm in Germany (and France when required) and oversee the closing of the balance sheets.
  • Closely collaborate with our finance team in Paris, and particularly, with our colleague in charge of the treasury planning for the production and sales activities of the companies.
  • Help optimize/automate finance activities, operations, systems, and processes.
  • Accurately prepare and fill state and state/government tax documents.

HUMAN RESSOURCES:

  • Recruit new colleagues.
  • Oversee the onboarding process, including contracts drafting with our external advisor.
  • Assist with the Management of the Berlin based team (Wine Bar staff, Cultural space project team).

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • You are fluent in English and German. French and Italian language are a plus.
  • You have a master’s degree in finance/business or further education in finance/accounting with a least 3+ years of relevant professional experience.

JOB OUTLINE

You will assist our sales and marketing team with some of the following tasks:

Sales:

  • Assist our sales executives with the market preparation and during markets (scheduling meetings, researching distributors, preparing documents and presentations on our films, assisting on the logistics, etc.).
  • Follow up with international distributors after the markets (preparing information on films, screeners, and others).
  • Search for prospective partners (market studies); improve and update the clients and sales database and contacts list.
  • Assist the sales team in the negotiation for film sales, for example by reflecting on selling points and gathering information on a film.
  • Assist with the redaction of contracts and other administrative tasks (notarization process, registration of contracts, etc.)
  • Follow up with our international distributors to track the films’ releases (release dates, admission numbers, marketing elements).
  • Support the management of MEDIA Creative Europe funding, both internally and in collaboration with our European distributors (application and reporting).
  • Keep track of expiring contracts and get in touch with distributors to negotiate renewals.
  • Assist the sales team in the preparation of sales strategies (reflect on pitching and ideas for retrospectives and collections).

Marketing and Press:

  • Research and create bonus material for our films in collaboration with our editors (interviews, behind-the-scenes material, etc.).
  • Collect and archive press reviews on our films in multiple languages and suggest press quotes’ selections.
  • Participate to test screenings of our films.
  • Ensure good communication during the creation of a film’s marketing with the graphic designers, the decision makers, and the printers (for new films and restored titles).
  • Improve the marketing elements for catalogue films with our editors and graphic designers (including trailer, poster, stills, extras and pressbook).

YOU ARE:

JOB OUTLINE

Coproduction Office, alongside the respective directors, is actively involved in the post-production process of the films it produces, including in the editing process. Currently four films are in post-production.

You will work on the following tasks:

  • Planning and coordinating test screenings
  • Communicating with the post-production team of each film
  • Preparing transcripts of the discussions concerning the test screenings
  • Looking for prospective test screening audiences
  • Improving and updating the test screening audience database
  • Assisting with the creation of VOD film screeners
  • Creating and/or reviewing subtitles, and assisting with the creation and editing of Dialogue Lists if needed
  • Working alongside the marketing team which includes editing of trailers and excerpts (press clips etc.)
  • Occasionally assisting our editor with editing
  • Occasionally editing with the director and editor of the film

YOU ARE

  • A native or fully fluent English speaker with an excellent command of German and/or French. A third language is a plus (Italian, Chinese or Russian in particular).
  • A cinephile with an interest in film analysis and an ability to formalize ideas.
  • Able to deal with stress and prioritize.
  • Proficient with AVID, Premiere, After Effects.

JOB OUTLINE

You will assist our in-house producers and our founder Philippe Bober with tasks related to production, financing, planning, reporting and cost accounting that may include:

  • Researching funds, investors, and credit lines
  • Conducting specific research related to individual film projects
  • Assisting with film budgets
  • Assisting with cost reports for producers and financing partners
  • Assisting with the legal aspects of international co-productions
  • Preparing applications for the funding of films (German and European film and cinema funds)
  • Assisting the in-house producers in preparing and following up on shootings and post-production
  • Copywriting texts in German (for instance for press books or for funding applications), and occasionally translating into German
  • Participating in, and occasionally helping with, the organization of test screenings of films in post-production
